Introduction to class:
First grade is a year filled with many new and exciting
experiences. Our reading program consists of the Open Court Reading
series, which focuses heavily on the use of phonics. Another component of
our reading program is called Guided Reading. This program is individually
tailored to meet the instructional needs of each student. In Math, the
students will learn to solve simple math problems through numerous
hands-on activities. This year we have implemented a new science program
called the Einstein Project. The student will learn about solids and
liquids, organisms and weather through various experiments. It is my goal
to create a learning environment in which the children feel secure and
confident. I realize that parents are a child's most influential teachers.
There is simply no substitute for the love, example, encouragement and
challenges that a parent provides a child. My job is to assist and work
with the parents of our community to provide an education that will be a
positive experience for the children.
