Brief Resume: I attended UW-Eau Claire and majored in music performance. After graduation, I traveled with kids from Wisconsin and Sound spectrum performing across the U.S. and later in Scandinavia. I returned to UWM and became certified to teach vocal music for ages k-12. I am continuing to update my music education skill and am now a certified instructor of the Carl Orff method, having received my certificate from Mount Mary college in 2001. “I have since taken workshops to continue to add to my knowledge of Orff music techniques.” On a personal level, I live with my husband in a home on the shores of a nearby lake. We especially like boating and swimming in summer. In winter I watch him ice fish (I don’t catch anything myself!) and we like to hike in spring and fall.” I can be reached at vschmidt@cgbsd.com |

Introduction to class: In the music classroom students become familiar with Elements of Music by engaging in listening, singing, group discussions, playing music and moving to music. All students also have opportunities to play together as an ensemble using rhythm instruments or xylophones. Third and Fourth graders also play recorder - a wind instrument that looks like a mini clarinet. Fourth graders attend a symphony concert. In other grades we have guest artists come to the classroom to demonstrate instruments. As there are very few assignments and tests, and as music is a participatory subject, a large portion of each student’s grade will be based upon class participation and performance. At Christmas time, each grade level sings 3 songs for the community in a Holiday extravaganza!
