Megan's Library of Love
Dear Cedar-Grove Belgium Community,
"God Bless You!" Monday, Mr. Ron Smith went to the Demopolis Post Office
and picked up 26 boxes of books for the students of John Essex High
School! Thank you, thank you and thank you.
The Fifth Graders of Cedar Grove Belgium School have done a marvelous
thing, and I am glad. All of the students of John Essex High School (K-12)
thank you; and please be sure that the books you sent will be taken care
of and put to good use. If our
library could smile, I know it would be one from ear to ear. Your hearts
are large!
We will be photographing the opening of the boxes and the responses of our
students in the Library by the end of this week. (Testing will be over
then.) We plan to place an article in the local newspaper. We will be sure
to send you a copy.
Again, thanks and your work will be rewarded!
Isn't David Mazor (see explanation below) the best? We love him too. I
know that Megan was a special fifth grader. She must be smiling on the way
you honor her name. You have truly sent to us "Megan's Library of Love."
If you knew John Essex, it's students and the need for books, you would
have no doubt that you have done something great in the lives of others.
Our library is being made richer because of you. Our students will have a
greater selection of books to read and we hope they will be motivated to
step up the AR and testing.
Love to each of you,
Students of John Essex High School (K-12)
Loretta McCoy, Principal
(David Mazor started the Reader to Reader organization based on the campus
of Amherst College. Reader To Reader is a public charity dedicated to
bringing books, free of charge, to needy school libraries and public
libraries across the United States. The organization has sent over
2,800,000 books to schools in need. David started the organization because
he was shocked to find many that schools in the United States have not
been able to purchase new books in years or even decades. This revelation
is very similar to the experience the fifth grade teachers have had since
starting the Library of Love. David recommended John Essex School to us
this year. For more information go to readertoreader.org)
