Mindfulness is a research an evidence-based practice that reduces stress, improves focus and sleep, decreases depression and anxiety, positively impacting overall health and well-being. Through a partnership with Mental Health America, Cedar Grove Belgium School District is providing teachers and students with instruction on incorporating mindfulness instruction techniques to decrease stress to improve health and learning.
Districtwide counseling services are provided to encourage optimal learning at each grade. Counselors in each building provide in-class, office-based and/or group services to address career, school adjustment, behavioral health, and other school counseling services. All counselors are trained in SBIRT (screening, brief intervention, referral to treatment) to provide the most appropriate services for students to ensure they get the support they need.
Nursing services are provided to reduce barriers to learning. Direct services are provided to students through the combined efforts of the district nurse, Sheboygan/Ozaukee County Health Department, school secretaries, designated teachers, and instructional paraprofessionals.
The district nurse coordinates services through training and supervision of staff. She acts as a liaison between school, home, healthcare providers, and/or community resources. Health services may include medication administration, health plans, first aid/illness care, immunization records, special health care procedures, and health education.
If your child needs medication administered during school hours specific forms must be completed. These forms can be obtained from the secretary at your child's school.
